Legal Affairs Assistant Manager – Mortgage

Role Description

Responsible for providing legal guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards related to mortgage lending. Also manage legal risks associated with mortgage transactions, review and negotiate contracts, and represent the organization in legal proceedings. The Legal Manager collaborates with internal departments and external stakeholders to facilitate smooth and legally compliant mortgage operations.

Main Accountabilities

  • Ensure that all mortgage-related activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards guiding mortgage lending activities . This includes staying updated on changes in laws and regulations that affect mortgage lending.
  • Review and approve legal documents related to mortgages, such as mortgage agreements, deeds, title documents, and other legal contracts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assess legal risks associated with mortgage transactions and implementing strategies to mitigate those risks. This may involve conducting legal due diligence on properties and borrowers.
  • Develop, implement, and update policies and procedures related to mortgage lending to ensure compliance and best practices
  • Negotiate and draft contracts with borrowers, vendors, and other parties involved in mortgage transactions.
  • Manage legal disputes related to mortgages, including foreclosure proceedings, property disputes, and borrower complaints.
  • Serve as a point of contact for regulatory agencies, respond to inquiries, and ensure regulatory compliance in all legal matters
  • Handle legal disputes related to mortgages, such as foreclosure proceedings, property disputes, and borrower complaints. This may involve representing the institution in court or negotiating settlements
  • Work closely with other departments within the organization, such as mortgage lending, risk management, compliance, and finance, to ensure alignment on legal matters and facilitate smooth mortgage transactions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external legal counsel, industry associations, and other stakeholders involved in mortgage lending.
  • Stay abreast of legal developments, trends, and case law relevant to the mortgage industry and provide recommendations accordingly.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Law.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in legal roles within the mortgage industry or real estate sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of mortgage laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in legal research and contract drafting.
  • Experience in dispute resolution and litigation management.
